The following is a review of the Intex Saltwater System that was submitted to me when I asked about people’s personal experiences with various swimming pool filtering and chemical systems. I cannot vouch for it, but I thought it might be of interest to some folks. Always do your research and use your best judgment.:
If you are looking to purchase an above ground swimming pool, you might want to consider the purchase an Intex Saltwater System for your above ground pool. You can purchase the saltwater system for under $200.00. It will honestly pay for itself in one season. You will no longer have to buy chlorine, or any other harsh chemical for you pool again.
The saltwater system will keep your pool sparkling clear, with little work on your part. The saltwater system works with your pump that comes with the pool. Depending on what size pool you have, the amount of salt you have to put into your saltwater system will vary. The salt is made up of sodium and chloride, and the saline water goes through plates that give the salt cell and chlorine a positive charge, after which, it goes into the pool water as free chlorine. There are many benefits of using the salt water system, since there are no harsh chemicals in your pool and no chlorine, it is less irritating to your eyes, and it does not affect people with breathing problems. It also will not fade your bathing suit. It is a wise investment to do this, you will save money and time. You and your family will be glad that you switched to a saltwater system.
Intex Brand Pools and Intex Filter Pump System is designed for Intrex pool set 15' or larger with a properly matched and sized intex filter pump. It might also be compatible with other above ground pool system; however, we do not guaranteed the compatibility of the products. No redder, burning eyes, faded clothes, and pool liners. Simply hook the Intex saltwater generator into the pool's water flow as directed, add the specified amount of salt, and the Chlorine Generator will do the rest. The pool's water is converted to an effective algaecide - and since salt doesn't evaporate or dissipate as chlorine does, the constant addition of chemicals is a thing of the past. Keep your pool incredibly clean, crystal clear and fresh at all times.
Easily connects to most pool filter pumps
Has a control dial to allow pre-programmed time settings
Includes 50 test strips to test performance
110 - 120 Volt AC operation
Great for swimmers that are allergic to chlorine

I purchased going on the mixed reviews I read here with a grain of salt (no pun intended) and let me tell you, it does exactly what it is advertised to do. Anyone who is having issues with this unit is either not using it correctly or they have a defective unit. Since I have converted to this salt water system I have not had any issue in keeping my 5000 gallon pool clean and free of algae.
I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from using chemicals.
Love this product!

We used this product all last summer and now are using it this summer. I can't say enought about how I love it!!! I have a 18x52 frame pool and this things works wonders. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. For my pool it takes 4 40lb bags of water softner salt pellets. I dump it in with pump running. It dissolves in about 2 hours with my 4000 gph intex pump (if your pool is 18" or larger always upgrade to the 4000 gph pump, you will be glad you did). After adding the salt about 3 hours later I turned on my chlorinator (if you have a smaller pump it will take a lot longer to mix the salt properly). Ran it for 8 hours the first day, just to build up the chlorine level then after that ran it for 6 hrs per day. It was an absolute dream. does exactly what it is supposed to do. The negative for me are as follows. If the power goes out you have to re-program it and you can't set a specific time. You just have to go out and turn it on the time of day you want it to turn on every day ( the reason this was annoying to me is that my breaker tends to trip every once in a while and it would screw up my schedule, but truly no big deal in the big picture). Secondly is toward the end of the summer my ph got out of wack and it left big deposits in the cholorinator to the point the water wouldn't flow through so it would automatically shut off. You just have to open it all up and get the deposit build up off of the coils, but it got annoying. This wasn't a problem with the chlorinator it was a problem with my pump not pumping like it should (upgraded to a larger pump and it took care of that) and the fact that I let my ph get out of wack. This year I plan on watching my ph better and just automatically cleaning the coils(it's not really a coil it is actually plates on the inside of the chlorinator) and checking them every other week. Even though it does have it's issues, it is the best thing that ever happened to my pool maintanance. Love it and would recommend it hands down. Just make sure you read all the instructions on how to run it and maintain it.
Great Product - Great Seller

i purchased the Intex Saltwater Chlorine generator for my pool. Last year I hhad a real problem stabilizing water chemistry in my pool with conventional chemicals. Had to flush and refill 3 times! This year, since the purchase, I have had no problems. I even had an algae bloom (we went away and the power went out to my pool for 2 days) and it cleared it up within a day! No purchase regrets at all!
Wow

I installed this over a week ago for my 16' x 48" Intex pool. It was easy to put together. There was no other parts needed to connect this to my pump. I added the salt to my pool and turn the unit on 24 hours later. The water is so clear! I have a bug light hanging not far away from the pool and I can see the bottom of the pool at night. My pool has a 1000 gph pump. So far it has been working well. I think as long as you keep your filter clean there should be no need to upgrade to a bigger pump. I had to clean the "plates" already (I think this was due to the hard water we have) which was very easy to do. I bought a timer for my pool pump so I could set this 5 minutes before the chlorinator starts. This was definitely worth getting. I recommend this product.
Works better than expected

I purchased this unit last year. We have a 13' round pool (48" deep). I did not want to deal with the upkeep of chemicals etc. So I took the leap of faith. I was pleasantly surprised how well this unit works.
I only had to clean the unit on the inside once, as I have wellwater with a high concentration of calcium.
It is very easy to operate and connected to our (also intex) pump without any hassle.
I had to use a total of 80 ponds of salt and stirred the water for a while on and off. After all the crystals were gone, I turned the pumps on and never looked back!
