When you are considering purchasing and installing a swimming pool, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration. Some of the choices you make can end up making a huge difference in the final price of your swimming pool project.

I am not a swimming pool contractor.  I do buy a lot of swimming pool accessories for my own family though,  and I’d love to hear about any interesting related  backyard swimming pools, spas or other related items you may have purchased.  I’ve just done a lot of research for my own projects and thought that I might be able to save some people a little bit of grief.  Before you make any major decisions, get the input of several pool professionals.

Swimming pool contractors are probably feeling an economic pinch right now just like a lot of people.  When the economy gets tight, less people are going to have the money to spend on getting a pool installed.  This can be a very nice thing for you if you are looking to get yourself a swimming pool.  You could end up getting a nice deal, especially if you are looking at in-ground swimming pools as an option.

In-ground swimming pools are generally much more expensive than their cousins the above ground swimming pools.  In-ground pool installation is much more involved and the final cost of getting an in-ground pool is subject to a lot more variables.  Some of these variable include things like material costs and labor costs.  While labor costs might not change a whole lot from year to year, the cost of materials certainly can.  When the swimming pool contractor has to pay his delivery people more because they are spending more to run their trucks, the cost has to end up going somewhere, and unfortunately, you are the end of the line as the person getting the pool installed.

In my opinion, above ground swimming pools are almost always a good investment for a family that likes to swim.  The total swimming pool cost is considerably less than the cost of an in-ground swimming pool and you can at least consider setting up the pool yourself (although I’d recommend having someone there who knows what they are doing!)

I’ll be writing what I found as I considered my options in getting a swimming pool and I’ll share what I’ve learned as this site continues to grow.  One thing I ran into a lot as I talked to swimming pool dealers and asked questions was a feeling that I was being pressured to go with the most expensive items available.  I finally found some people who didn’t pressure me and it was a real relief to just get some answers to swimming pool questions.

Even though I personally enjoy having a swimming pool, there are a lot of questions that will come up for you if you are brand new to pool ownership.  Probably the first consideration for most people will be swimming pool prices.  This is an area that can vary a LOT depending on your own situation and you will want to have several bids or estimates for anything you might be considering.  Some of the other things you might find yourself wondering about include:

  • Whether you should get an above ground pool or an in-ground pool.
  • What kind of swimming pool maintenance will be required once the pool is installed?
  • If you are getting an in-ground model, you may be thinking about different designs for your pool and even how to go about creating a “pool-scape” to make your pool area more inviting to visitors.
  • You will need to know about the hidden costs of swimming pools.  This can include things like local ordinances for fencing, running electricity, and excavation work that you will not be able to complete on your own.
  • Swimming pool equipment such as pumps, filters and accessories.
  • What type of swimming pool liner will you need?

Because swimming pools can be a major project, there are a lot of services that have popped up around the swimming pool market.  Along with swimming pool contractors who can install your pool for you, there are also professionals out there who specialize in swimming pools service  and repair.  For those who like to do as much as possible by themselves, there is swimming pool software designed to help with the tasks involved in keeping your pool running smoothly.  Finally, you will also find that there is an entire market built around swimming pool loans and swimming pool financing for those who want a little bit more pool than they can pay for out of pocket right at the moment.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my website today.  I hope you will find information here that helps you on your way to owning and enjoying a swimming pool of your own.
